Five Droplet Propeller Discs - Glass Lampwork Necklace By Amy Holms

These lampwork glass beads were handmade in my studio from Effetre Italian glass. Each bead is comprised of a glass donut bail surrounded by 3 pressed glass discs. The 5 beads are in gradated sizes and shades of transparent green. The beads nestle together next to each other, creating a cluster of overlapping glass planes which adds depth and tones of color to the transparent glass. Included are 2 light green, 2 medium green and a central dark green bead. They are well-fused and are shown here with spacers that will be included with the beads. The beads measure between approximately 30mm around x 14mm wide to 27.5mm around x 11mm wide (1 1/8" around x 9/16" wide to 1" around x 7/16" wide). Nestled together, the cluster of 3 beads is approximately 36.5mm (1 7/16") wide. The beads have been kiln annealed for longevity and cleaned with a diamond reamer. The beads were created on a 3/32" mandrel. The necklace is sold with a 16" 1mm sterling silver omega with sterling silver clasp.Artist: Amy HolmsArtist’s StatementMy architectural background has led to a love of clean, colorful and modern styling. I am currently working to translate this aesthetic into the fluid medium of glass. One of my favorite comments about my work is that my beads are like ‘liquid color.’ I am thrilled by the combination of pure color and clean design with the transparency that glass affords me. I am highly interested in both structure and form, and strive to create work that is both elegant and functional. Each of my pieces is handmade from Italian, German and American glass. All work is kiln-annealed for longevity and cleaned with a diamond reamer, ready for use.
